Mauritius is by far one of the Indian Ocean Island's that has the most hotels.

Hotels are categorised as follows:

  • Self Catering Hotels

  • 2* Hotels

  • 3* Hotels

  • 4* Hotels

  • 5* Hotels

Hotels are also rated between the top categories and can be rated a standard 4*, 4* Superior, 4* Deluxe or even up to 5* Exclusive Hotel. With each category a better hotel with more to offer. See specific Hotel for correct rating.

Although there are self catering and 2* Hotels in Mauritius, Travel Expeditions only sell from the 3* mark and upwards due to the fact that the hotels below this are mostly of sub standard and not recommended.

Mauritius 3* Hotels

3* Hotels in Mauritius are normally more basic and is recommended for the price conscious traveller.  They are generally smaller as compared to the 4* and 5* Hotels in Mauritius. These 3* properties offer less in respect of facilities and activities and also mostly smaller beaches. They might also offer a smaller variety of foods at meal time and rooms are also marginally smaller than the 4* and 5* properties.

Mauritius 4* Hotels

4* Hotels in Mauritius are normally bigger than 3* with more emphasis on rooms, food and facilities offered.  4* resorts in Mauritius generally have bigger beaches due to the fact that the hotels are bigger. Certain 4* properties are sometimes even priced lower than 3* due to it being bigger and can give that quantity saving towards the client. Also the location of the resprt do sometimes play a role in the pricing as some areas are more sort after on the island. The Mauritius 4* Hotels are the most recommended due to the quality and value.

Mauritius 5* Hotels

5* Hotels in Mauritius are normally the most luxurious class available, with the most emphasis on luxury, service quality and value.  5* properties in Mauritius range from Medium sized to bigger sized hotels with generally excellent beach stretches (clear stretch of beach and water).  The 5* hotels can also be distinguished between a family friendly focus, but also some 5*s offer a more intimate, romantic focus, which are less child friendly.   The 5* hotels in Mauritius offer a wide variety of facilities and activities, of which most are complimentary to its guests.  Many 5* hotels offer a selection of personal touches like private transfers to and from the specific Mauritius resort.  These 5* hotels' Restaurants and Bars are more exquisite with a wide variety of excellent cuisine and a wide variety of beverages.  These Mauritius hotels mostly feature big airy rooms with all the personal touches associated with a 5* hotel option.
